International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

11.02.2021

Today marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Congratulations to all colleagues of women scientists, as well as students of Kharkiv
National University of Radio Electronics on this holiday!
Every year on February 11, the United Nations celebrates the International Day of
Women and Girls in Science.

The holiday "is founded to achieve full and equal access for women and girls to science,
as well as to ensure gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls," the UN General
Assembly resolution of 22 December 2015 said.
On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution “Science,
Technology and Innovation for Development”, which recognized equal access for women and
girls of all ages to the achievements and development of science, technology and innovation as a
guarantee of gender equality in this area.
Two years later, a resolution (70/212) was adopted at the regular plenary session of the
General Assembly, which declared 11 February the International Day of Women and Girls in
Science.
The main goal of the resolution is to achieve qualitative changes in the process of
attracting women and girls to science. The world community has recently made significant
progress in this regard, but for some reason women and girls still face limitations in this activity.
The percentage of women involved in R&D (research and development) in each region of
the world is still low. On average, this figure is 40% in Central and Eastern Europe. Only one in
five countries has achieved gender parity, with 45% to 55% of researchers being women.
In Ukraine, the statistics are quite good: 46% of women scientists. Ukrainians have
proven themselves well in molecular biophysics, psychology, nanomaterials and computer
engineering, including abroad.

NURE ENTERED THE SUBJECT RATINGS OF THE

02.11.2020

The British publication Times Higher Education (THE) published the results of subject ratings, which for the first time included the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics.  In the field of “Computer Science” NURE took 301-400 position in the world and 2nd place in Ukraine, in the field of “Engineering Science and Technology” – 601-800 position in the world and 3rd place in Ukraine.

The same 13 indicators are used in compiling THE subject rankings as in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.  They present five areas: teaching (learning environment) – 30%;  research (volume, income and reputation) – 30%;  citations (research impact) – 27.5%;  international interaction (teachers, students and research) – 7.5%;  income from production activities (knowledge transfer) – 5%.
The threshold for entering the subject rating is determined by two criteria: the threshold of publications and the threshold of academic staff in the discipline.  For the ratings “Computer Science” and “Engineering Science and Technology” it is 500 articles in these areas for the last five years in Scopus and at least 1 percent of the number of teachers of computer science and computer science and 4 percent of the number of teachers of engineering disciplines (electrical and electronic engineering, energy, devices and materials science, robotics, telecommunications, avionics, automation and control systems, biomedical engineering).
The Computer Science rating includes 827 universities, including 4 Ukrainian ones;  rating “Engineering Sciences and Technologies” – 1098 universities, including 8 Ukrainian.
